Are You Real?

Are You Real?
We were created to please God. That’s our number one purpose in life. Bringing a smile to God’s face is the goal of every day we live. But God also created us to be part of His family. God loves family and community. “How wonderful it is, how pleasant, when brothers live together in harmony!” (Psalm 133:1).

One thing you can bet on is that whatever brings a smile to God’s face brings a frown to the devils. If God loves unity and harmony in His family, the devil will do whatever he can to create disunity and division. Often times he causes the most disunity over the silliest things. I recently heard of a church member who left his long time church because the church replaced their coke machine in the fellowship hall with Pepsi. Now, what does that tell you about that person’s spiritual maturity or lack thereof? It is hard work to live in harmony with imperfect, self-centered people which I am the chief.

Community takes commitment. It means being honest with God, with yourself and with others. It means hanging in there when people act ugly toward you, hurt your feelings and reject you. Whenever we bail out, quit, walk off and take our ball and go home we lose any chance of pleasing God and allowing Him to accomplish His purpose within us. God uses other people to sand off our rough edges cultivating in us a sense of humility. I can’t tell you how many times I have met with people over the years that that where extremely bent out of shape over the silliest of matters.

God wants all of His children to be real… to be who He created us to be, not what we think everyone else wants us to be. A community of harmony and unity never happens with people who are like the toys that break easily or have sharp edges, or who have to be carefully kept. God uses the people He places in our lives to sand down our rough spots and polish our strengths.

Do you know why so many people keep looking for real a community of faith. They haven’t stayed long enough to be real. They bail out at the first sign of pain or hardship and go searching for a church utopia where everything goes the way they want it too. You know as well as I that no place like that exists in this world.

I encourage you not to run away from the real community of faith that God has planned for you because something doesn’t go your way. Remember, becoming real doesn’t happen overnight. Hang in. Think about that!
Walk Worthy,
Pastor Rick
