"For God so loved the world that He gave...." John 3:16
I hope you are having a great week. I have been thinking a lot lately about what it means to really give. Do you know how you measure love? God! God is love. He is the greatest lover of all. He is also the greatest giver of all. He loves us so much that He gave His only son to die in our place. Since He gave us His very best, do you think He's going to keep the rest? I don't think so.
God gives us love....total love, complete love, absolute love, and unconditional love. How do we know that? God's book of love, the bible tells us so. "But God showed His great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners" (Romans 5:8). God did not send an angel before hand to warn us to clean up our act (or to "sit up straight and fly right", an old southern saying), before He sent His son Jesus to die for us. He loved you and me when we were rotten to the core, mean spirited, hateful and didn't give a rip about the things of God.
God not only gives us His love, but also His joy, His peace, and His hope. As I look around this world, I see very little of any of those things. People look like they have been weaned on dill pickles. There's no passion, no sparkle in their eyes, no spring in their step, no joy in their faces and no peace in their hearts. And worst of all their hope tanks are empty. "Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but when dreams come true, there is life and joy" (Proverbs 13:12 NLT).
Guess what? God thought you were worthy, or else He wouldn't have spent so much on you. You can tell how much something is worth by how much someone is willing to pay for it. Just think how much you are worth to God.
So what do God's children, His prized possessions, do next? We give! We give away what He has given us. He gives us love....we give it away. He gives us hope, we give it away. Get the picture. What He has given us, we pass it on.
I am reminded of the Doritos commercial in which a guy was gobbling down a big bag of chips. He said, "Go ahead and eat up. We'll make more!"
So go ahead, gobble up all of God's love, hope, joy, peace, and goodness you possibly can. Then give it away to everyone you see. I mean everyone....especially those who need it the most....the hurting, the hateful, the undeserving, the lonely, the confused.
Why do you think they are the way they are? Their bag is empty, and they have no one to take more from. We have someone who has an endless supply. So go ahead, eat up and enjoy. Pass the bag around. He'll make more!
