Where Are You?

Eugene Peterson said, “If Christ is King, everything- quite literally everything has to be re-imagined, re-configured, and re-oriented to a way of life that consists in an obedient following of Jesus”.

I do not believe that the majority of God’s people intentionally break fellowship with God and go their on way into the world of carnality, apathy and indifference thereby loosing perspective of their God given purpose in life.

Satan is too smart for that. No, he subtly works his way into our lives. He whispers in our ears that we do not need worship and fellowship so we go the lake or “out of town”. He subtly diverts our attention away from the things of God to the things of the world. Consequently reading God’s word and spending time alone with the Lord are replaced with a million and one other activities.

The next thing we know we haven’t written a tithe check in a long time and sharing our testimony with someone is an ancient memory. Our relationship with Christ which once was precious becomes familiar.

Where are you in your walk with the Lord? How is it with your soul? Are you drifting or just going nowhere with God? How can you get back on track?

I believe when the hardening of our spiritual arteries occurs we need to “Renew our Vision”. We need to go back to the basics and ask some simple questions.

1. Do I consistently have peace and joy? Peace and joy come from a faithful, healthy life of faith.
2. Am I hiding known sin? No one can worship and serve God completely with un-confessed sin.
3. How is my spiritual appetite? Do you still relish the preaching of God’s word?
4. Is Christ the first and best thought of my life?
5. Am I tired of God? Have you lost your taste for worship, prayer and God’s word?
6. Am I bearing spiritual fruit? Someone who is living in Christ bears fruit.

I believe the answer to “Renewing our Vision” of God’s plan for our life comes from the power of the Holy Spirit. Paul writes in 2 Cor. 3:18, “For this comes from the Lord who is the spirit”.

We are made like Jesus by Jesus. The vision that we have in Christ as His children is to manifest a visible Christ likeness of character. That inward sanctifying work can only be done by the power of the Holy Spirit.

When we “Renew our Vision” through confession and repentance we will not be interested in skin-deep holiness. We will not be satisfied with superficial behavior changes.

What we will long for is a deep inward change of character. In another words we will have a deep longing for the knowledge of God and to become “conformed to the image of his son Jesus.” (Romans: 8:29)

Walk Worthy,
Pastor Rick
